The Long Haul was created during the COVID-19 pandemic to fill a growing void for students interested in medicine. With traditional shadowing and clinical experiences suddenly unavailable, students lost valuable opportunities to connect with physicians and explore the many paths available within medicine. The Long Haul was created to bridge that gap.

Through conversations with physicians across a wide range of specialties, we give pre-medical students an opportunity to learn directly from practicing doctors, explore different careers in medicine, and gain virtual exposure to specialties they may otherwise never experience.

Our mission has since expanded beyond physician interviews. As a nonprofit organization, The Long Haul also connects aspiring physicians with current U.S. MD medical students for completely free, one-on-one mentorship. Our mentors help students navigate the medical school application process, strengthen their candidacy, understand their next steps, and receive guidance from someone who has successfully traveled the same path.
